Unfortunately, the man DaM Funk had to post-pone his scheduled appearance last Sunday, Sept 6th at The Modern due to issues with his passport. He’s promised a make-up date real soon and sent over a couple new tracks including a extra special “apology” song he recorded just for his Vancouver fans to hold us over until we reschedule the show – A+ class all the way, would you expect anything less from the man DaM?
plus residents Sam Demoe, Ch3rk and December Furcoat
Hosted by Ritchie, Jones and Jess
Almost Famous and Fast Life are pleased to welcome DAEDELUS back to The Modern. After destroying the crowd with a live / DJ hybrid set earlier this summer, we just had to get the Ninja Tune whizkid back for another show, this time accompanied by rising star NOSAJ THING. Fans of experimental, bass-heavy abstract hip-hop and headzy beats get ready for a treat!

Random Long Weekend, part three in the series and we bringing you a good one. Mark it down on your calendar folks, Sunday September 6th at The Modern (7 Alexander Street).
Straight from Cali with love is the one and only DãM Funk of Stones Throw. DãM (pronounced Dame) Funk throw’s one of the freshest Monday night parties in Los Angeles called “Funkmosphere”. He’s long been known as Los Angeles’ “Ambassador of Boogie Funk”.
As a DJ/selector, dãm attracts the most discerning Boogie Funk afficionados within driving distance of his storied Monday-night Funkmosphere parties (http://myspace.com/funkmosphere). But it’s not just collectors at the bar toasting to the melodic sounds. Anyone who grooves to the likes of Slave, Aurra, early Prince, Prelude Records and the like, will get a dose of those groups’ unknown contemporaries – more obscure but equally Funk-worthy.
The next phase of the Ambassador’s mission: continuing the classic West Coast tradition into today’s scene with dãm’s own original “Modern-Funk” compositions. By plugging in his arsenal of vintage synths and drum machines, dãm channels the galactic harmonies of his inspiration into his own brand of new boogie. Stones Throw Records’ like-minded honcho Peanut Butter Wolf brought dãm on to the team to glide into the future with his unique, synth and bass-driven vibe. It’s a promising new chapter for Southern Cali space funk.
